Payback Formula Explained

Payback period (months) = Initial investment ÷ Monthly savings

  • Initial investment. Upfront cost for devices, licenses, setup, and training.
  • Monthly savings. Net monthly benefit from the new POS—labor time saved, fewer errors, lower fees, tighter inventory.

Shorter payback is better. If you land over 12–18 months, renegotiate pricing, right-size hardware, or raise the savings you actually capture.
