  • Francois’ background [0:41]
    • Been working in marketing, communications, journalism for two decades or so.
    • Really converted from being a reporter and an editor into ecommerce and marketing over the past two or three years, working for organizations like Vancouver Film School and Unbounce, where he was the managing editor there for a bit.

    • He likes to teach, inform, illuminate and that's going to be the goal of the ECM podcast going forward.
    • Ecommerce is now becoming more like the face of commerce. It's growing and it's going to keep growing in the next few years.
  • The Retail Exec podcast: what can listeners expect when they tune into the show? [3:22]
    • One of the things we want to do with the podcast is take what we've been producing on The Retail Exec website in terms of resources, articles, interviews, and put it in an audio format for people to listen to on the go, or to take with them in their downtime—and make it entertaining.
    • We want to make it a fun conversation with ecommerce experts in the field doing the work.
    • Provide priceless little tidbits of information, actionable insights that can help those business operators, retailers succeed.
    • We are going to feature a range of experts that'll come on the show as guests and discuss aspects of their ecommerce business in a clear, engaging way.
    • We want the podcast to be fun, to provide clear, actionable advice that can make your ecommerce business better. And we are going to talk to the real pros, get the real juicy details about how ecommerce works in 2024 and beyond.
  • How is ECM podcast going to be different from other ecommerce podcasts? [4:44]
    • We don’t want to assume that anybody listening to this podcast knows everything about ecommerce, because they don't.
    • We are going to ask the right questions to get the best answers. We're going to select topics that are top of mind for ecommerce managers across the industry, and we're going to present all that information in a very clear way.
    • We're going to make sure we have the information readily available. We're going to compliment that with articles on our website and other resources that we'll put in the show notes.
    • We don't assume that we know everything, but we don't treat you like you don't know anything. It's really finding that balance of an engaging conversation, something that you can learn, but also treating you like the professionals that you are when you're listening to this podcast.
  • How has ecommerce changed over the last few years? [6:29]
    • COVID accelerated changes in the retail industry. And those changes were already becoming a reality before the pandemic hit.
    • Now has never been a better time to be an ecommerce business operator or to get started as an ecommerce retailer. Anyone can start an ecommerce business. It's the democratization of ecommerce.
    • You're able to get your voice, get your product, and get your brand out there more than ever. It's an opportunity and with that comes challenges for ecommerce retailers, and that's why we are here at ECM to help you overcome these challenges.
  • What are some of the challenges and pain points that ecommerce managers and ecommerce professionals are facing today? [8:38]
    • Logistics is a huge concern. Whether it's offering the best shipping experience, the best delivery experience, because everybody's getting their stuff delivered at home and last mile, for example, that last stretch of delivery is so crucial and that's what can cost so much for ecommerce businesses.
    • The marketing. How do you stand out from the competition? How do you make sure that you really get engaged with your audience and that you can get your products in front of eyeballs?
    • Data. It's a big numbers game. How to understand the data and especially how to use the data that you get, whether it's conversion rates or any other metrics that you can calculate with various tools and dashboards, how do you act on that?
    • These ever-changing practices, as ecommerce becomes commerce, practices will evolve and they change constantly. One big thing that we'll be looking at is best practices for ecommerce businesses. How to stay ahead and get ahead of the game to make sure that you get your revenue increased, that you stay profitable and that you grow as fast as you want or as fast as you can.
